One of those little things

One of the games I enjoyed playing as a child was “Jacks”. I didn’t have the game, but there was always at least one girl that would bring them to school. We would play during recess.

The game consisted of jacks made of metal and a little red bouncy ball. If you are not familiar with the game you can find it online. There are videos showing how the game is played.

Back in the 50’s I had no idea that a red ball would play a part in my life many years later.

I fell on ice and messed up one of my shoulders badly. Surgery was done and I had to go to physical therapy for a couple of months.

In the meantime the surgery brought on another issue. I then had to go to hand therapy for another two months.

Other than the treatment they gave me a red ball to squeeze while sitting and not using my hands.

That little red ball, a band to stretch and professional help brought back the use of my hand and 80% use of my shoulder.

That little red ball sits on my computer desk and is one of the reminders…that little things matter. I use it to help strengthen my hands.

Sometimes little things turn into big things.

Take time to notice the little things they are important.

Love hugs and blessings to all!

What a reminder! We played jacks at recess, too, and sis and I played them at home.

I was glad to see that they are still available to purchase . I hope there are children that enjoy them now like we did years ago.

We had very little to spend on extras too. The jacks were probably a gift from some relative.

I’m so glad that you healed up, Mags! Ouch. My dad had a set of Jacks, I think my sister has his set.

Yes!! I loves playing jacks as a kid!
I know about stress balls. I have had all kinds and probably need one now, but I’m going to PT for my neck issue that’s making my hand numb. Feeling better slowly but surely. I’m glad you got yours fixed as well!

I’m so happy for you that you were able to get most of the use of your hand and shoulder back. Accidents can happen so quickly an unexpectedly.

I had a set of jacks and it was one of my favorite games to fill my solitary hours.

I grew up the only child in the home and not many children around to play with except cousins, so games that I could play with by myself were very important.

Thank you, Vero. My sister and I were raised by a single working mother and we didn’t have games. We didn’t have much time for being a child after doing chores. Now that we are adults we have a lot of games and we enjoy playing games . I am glad you had jacks and other games to play. I was pretty sure you would know all about jacks. Hugs
