Did I really see that?

Sometimes I see things crawling across the floor that look like insects or other things.

I walk over to check it out and there is nothing there.

I looked out the door late one night and saw what looked like an upside down bowl with twinkling lights around the bottom.

For a few seconds I actually wondered if beings from other planets had come to visit my neighborhood. I had a weird feeling in my stomach.

I looked out the window late one night and saw a man dressed in black with a bright light looking at my water meter.

The words out of my mouth were “Lord Jesus please not again”. There had been several water leaks and water line bursts in our city and at my place in the past months.

I quickly went to the front door to see what was going on. There was no one there. I said “Now I know that man could not have run fast enough to get away before I got to this door.” There was no vehicle around so I knew he could not have driven away.

That really kept me wondering about how that happened.

Explanations….

What I see that look like insects, strings and other things are Eye Floaters. I have had them for many years and they still fool me many times.

What looked like something from another planet turned out to be a Mylar balloon that had floated to my neighbors yard and got hung in a shrub.

The balloon was slightly moving and the street light shining on it made it look like there were small blinking lights. That was a relief. 😂

A little later in the night I looked out the window again and I saw something familiar.

There was no man at my water meter. What I saw was a reflection in the window from that I was watching on TV.

I have learned that I cannot always trust what my eyes are telling me I see.

Have you or do you experience times when you think you see things that are not really what they are?

I’m telling you I would prefer to see an tow of green men coming down from a space bowl than that gigantic beetle😂

I have mental health issues when I get very stressed I start seeing things. Not saying that’s happening to you, but when my emotions are heightened that’s when it happens and it’s not very nice.

I am so sorry you have those issues. The kind of things you see are totally different than what saw. I am very familiar with mental illness having fostered and adopted children and teens with different kinds of mental illness. Hugs and prayers Mickey. Thank you for reading and commenting on my post.

Oh yes, definitely! And I have definitely “seen” things that turn out to be something else entirely. I have some floaters also and a few years ago while I was at work, the field of vision in my right eye suddenly turned red. I went to an ophthalmologist who said that a small blood vessel in my eye had burst. Apparently the blood is still there but my brain is compensating and I don’t see it any more. Your post is a good reminder to stop and think first before making quick decisions (and especially acting on them!). 😊 Cheers.

Thank you, Lynette for visiting and commenting. I also had a blood vessel burst in one of my eyes many year ago. I no longer see the blood either. Our brains are amazing, aren’t they? I am learning that seeing things that aren’t what they seem to be is a common thing for a lot or possibly all people. You are right that we should always stop and think first before making quick decisions. Hugs

You know, if we “old” people didn’t share these experiences, we might think we were the only ones going through it, but actually it’s quite normal and it’s good to know that.

You are right about that. I am finding that since it happens to so many that it is a normal thing. Thank you Anneli. Hugs

Around Christmas time I see a beautiful Christmas tree in my neighbor’s front yard. There is no tree in their yard. It is really my tree reflecting in the window. Also, we have a large, wooded area behind our house and the trees are very tall. In the winter, at night, sometimes I look toward the tops of those trees and think someone strung them with white Christmas lights. It is really the stars shining in between the branches of the trees. Both of these are beautiful to see, and I am thankful for these optical illusions.

Yes. I have experienced this and I really feel silly after I realize what it is. But it is funny and that’s ok. Driving along a stretch of road I saw what looked like a wild turkey standing by the side of the road. Ends up I saw some tall grass/weeds surrounding a yellow fire hydrant. Silly eyes… :-)

I tried to leave a comment this morning, but it did not go through. I do experience thinking I see something and then confirm it was not as it appeared. It is usually in times of dim light, or at night when shadows and car lights make things look real that are not. Only occasionally do I feel the need to turn on the light and check for sure!

I have not had that experience however the beetle picture reminded me of when I was a small child and used to use cotton thread to tie a beetle like that to a used match box and that became my horse and cart. :)

Yes, off in the distance I think I see an alligator, fox and upon closer look, it is a broken down wood stump or part of a tree lying in the park after a rainstorm.

It must be concerning when you believe something is wrong and then a bit confused when you realize what it really is.

I do, especially when the light is dim. Things look like things they are not. Shadows, lights, movement of trees or car lights, they can all at times look like something else. Given our dogs bark every time they hear anything outside, I can remind myself if something was really here, I would know…but I have also been known to turn the light on and check. ☺️

Thank you for reading and commenting. I no longer have a dog so I look outside quite often. I don’t always see things that unnerve me though. It is good to check if one thinks something could be outside that has no business being there. Glad you have dogs, they are the best alarm you can have. Hugs

That one was me, too, Mags. I thought I missed the comment box and that I had made a mistake. Normally, I get the waiting on moderation comment, but it did not come up, so I thought I did not click send. I always feel a sense of connection with you because we share many traits, apparently. I do have a sense of relief that our dogs are good at alarms, even if they are false alarms.

Yes, it was a reflection of a man on TV. I didn’t run outside I just opened the door. I had had had four water leaks and city had one that all flooded parts of my yard a few months earlier. That is why I went to the door to check and relieved though puzzled why no one was there. I was happy when I found out it was a reflection from the TV. Hugs

I’m glad that nobody was messing with your home, Mags. I now have a floater in both eyes and do have what look like hairs floating about too.

Its annoying. My eye doctor told me that there will usually be just one floater in each eye but she didn’t say anything about the other stuff I see.

When I close my eyes in the right lighting, I can see both floaters as little black dots that seem like eyeballs staring back at me!

Wow, John that is eerie that the black dots look like eyeballs staring at you. I am so sorry. I too am glad no one was messing around my home. It was really weird the way the TV in another room was reflecting on the window in the room where I was looking outside. I look out often since I no longer have a dog. Thank you for you comment. ❤️
