Thinking of those

Every morning for the last few days I have had issues on some webpages including WordPress. I have to refresh the page to get some pages to open. Even after refreshing the page several times some images will not load.

Not all people have been as fortunate as I have in being able to have a computer for many years. A family member gifted me a computer and taught me how to use it back in the 1970’s.

All the things that has to be done online and the issues that come up with them from time to time…I can’t help but think about those who are up in age and do not have a clue how a computer works.

There are people that don’t even have a computer what are they to do when what they need to do has to be done online?

In my opinion besides changes being made on webpages AI is causing issues and making it even more difficult to just do basic things online.

I don’t like being pressured to do something. I am very put out with those that keep trying to get me to use AI.

If you like AI and it works for you I hope it serves you well, but it is not for me.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of those who do not have a computer or know how to use one.

Have a blessed day everyone. Love and hugs to all.

Absolutely. I love technology but up to a limit and let’s face it sometimes it just complicates things rather than simplifying them.

The bots and AI fakes are enough to make you insane. Iโ€™m trying to avoid AI as well since I think itโ€™s out of control and the water those gigantic AI data centres (bigger than Central Park in NY) use is obscene.

I’m grateful I have a computer and don’t know what I’d do without it.

AI is good for industry but the way social media is using it raises questions as to how much personal information is being collected in data bases which we do not approve of and sold to advertisers who bombard us with their useless advertising. Giants like Google etc. even suck in publications and say they use it for training but there is the question of copyright which seems to be bypassed by those collections.

I agree with you Ian on question of copyright. We have so little control on what happens with our information and it is getting worse.

In Florida, the local libraries have wonderful free classes on using computers, updating technology, and getting online. There are also free classes offered for those retired at local universities including using AI which is helpful. I took a couple of AI classes to learn more and found them helpful.

They have them in libraries here too. The problem I have with AI is the misuse of it. Every time something comes up that could be a good thing and helpful to all there is always those that use it to cause harm.

Yes, very true or to make it easier for themselves as in cheating.

Oh, my mother doesn’t want to hear anything about me showing her how to “deal” with a computer. I studied IT, for crying out loud! ๐Ÿ˜„ She just doesn’t know how to use one. She has a smartphone, though, which is good. One day I even discovered she knows how to open the news app, so she can read the news on her phone. But at heart, she’s definitely a TV and radio kind of girl.

Good for your mother being able to use a smart phone and have things as she wants them. I do better with a computer, sometimes smart phones outsmart me. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I’ve had those same thoughts exactly, Mags. Not sure what we can do about it though. We are overwhelmed.

Completely agree, Mags. I feel that many of our older folks are being left behind, needing apps for everything from clipping store coupons to scheduling doctor appointments and paying bills. Technology is great in its place, but I wish they had left the old school options in place too. And I’m with you on AI. I don’t need or want it in my life. But I’m afraid that is a choice that will be taken out of our hands too, and probably sooner rather than later :(

I totally agree with you Jean on all you have said. Every day it seems we are losing more control of things that should be ours to control. ๐Ÿ˜’

I completely agree with you on this, Mags. A couple that are good friends and still live in Michigan have never used the internet and have no computers, just cell phones. I don’t see how they get along in life without it, but we did years ago and they were better years. We are all forced into using the internet for so many things now. I pay my bills online, haven’t wrote a check in years…
