Backyard gathering in the rain

I have always enjoyed watching birds come to eat when it is raining. It warms my heart to see the different species come together for a meal.

I also enjoy watching them eat when the sun is shining brightly. Yesterday we had rain, today we have sunshine.

I have learned a lot over the years from watching the beautiful birds God created.

The photos were taken by me in the backyard, but not recently.

Do you enjoy watching birds?

We do, also in Florida. I see egrets every morning at the house lot across the street. According to signs, I need to be careful walking my pug around the lake nearby as there are alligators. Haven’t seen them yet, but the rule of thumb is to assume every body of water has an alligator lurking.

Those alligators are something I would not want to get near. They can jump out and grab a dog in seconds. I hope you don’t get close enough for that to happen. Keep your distance from the water enjoy walking that precious little pug and be safe. I live in Arkansas I have never seen a live egret.

Do you get a lot of the indigo buntings? I rarely ever see one here and have never been able to get a good picture of one!

I saw a lot of them when I had all the feeders in the backyard. I haven’t seen any for a long time since I can no longer keep bird feeder in the yard.

I don’t see some of the birds I did when I had all the feeders. I still get to enjoy many of them though. I am sorry you don’t have more to watch. Thank you and also have a great day Anne.

We do enjoy watching the birds. We only feed them in the winter but we still see many throughout the year.

I am glad you enjoy watching them. I give them food in the bad, cold weather but do not have all the feeders I had in the past.

I enjoy watching birds, but I’m not willing to buy the expensive seeds that don’t germinate on the ground, resulting in weeds. I used to have a place where it didn’t matter.

I am glad to hear you enjoy watching birds. I no longer buy that expensive food either. I had to stop feeding them on a large scale because we had raccoon and rat problems in the city. If it is very cold, icy or snow on the ground I put a little food out for them in a container on the ground. They eat it all up quickly so that does not cause an issue with unwanted varmints.

What an excellent idea to have controlled feedings that won’t attract varmints!

Lovely photos, Mags!! I love birds, they are so free and have no worries except food and mating. Free spirits! I can’t put seed feeders out because of the nasty Rock Pideons, they are flying rats…

Thank you, John. I am sorry you can’t feed them. I am very limited to how I can feed them now. We had a raccoon and rat problem in the city and I took down all the feeders. When it is very cold, icy or snow on the ground I put out small amounts of food in a pan on the ground for them. I do that two or three times a day and they eat it up quickly so no problem with the unwanted critters.

I’m glad the pan feeding is working, Coons are vermin where I come from. They can be very destructive.

Yes they can. They chewed on a few of the feeders I had out. They managed to get to some of the food even with me using baffles.

I suppose you could have them trapped and taken somewhere far away by the proper authorities? They just want to survive too of course but it can be frustrating.

They did take the raccoon and her babies to a better place, but the rats, well we had to just stop leaving food out where they could not get to it. We still have wildlife in our city.

Oh, good! i hope you don’t have entry points anywhere on your home’s exteriour. Break out the rat traps, there are rats here too but I’ve never seen one in my neighborhood. Just traps for them around the outside of buildings.

I have not seen a rat in the yard or heard of anyone else having a problem since the bird feeders came down. No available food no rats.
