Dementia didn’t stop him

After my husband developed Dementia he spent most of his time in his chair watching television and napping. He didn’t sleep much and rarely slept in his bed.

There were two things he did all the way up the end of his life.

Every day after he retired he read the local news paper after breakfast. Later in the day he would read his Bible.

What a blessing to see him not losing the ability to continue to do at least these two things that he loved to do.

All the children were out on their own and we were no longer fostering children or animals.

It was just my husband, Chancy our little dog and our three cats, Patches, Snookums and PooGirl.

Patches always read the Bible and newspaper with my husband. I was so blessed to be able to watch them read together.

I can relate to your thoughts. My Grandmother had dementia and she passed away this year. During her final years she had forgotten my name which she so dearly used to call out when dementia hadn’t hit her. But still she never forgot the look of my face and always showed the same expression and smile when I came in front of her. I love her very much and wish that she is in a better place. Your husband too is in a good place wherever he is Mags.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Grandmother. Dementia is such a horrible thing. What a blessing that she never forgot the look of your face. I agree that they are both in a better place. We will always miss them. To me it is a comfort to know my husband no longer suffers. I would think you are also comforted in knowing your Grandmother no longer suffers with the terrible disease. Thank you, so much for your visit and comment. Hugs, prayers and blessings for you!

I always wondered what was going on in his mind when he kept seeming to be reading the Bible. He did not know who his children or grandchildren were and I was beginning to wonder if he knew who I was. He has been in the arms of Jesus since 2015. Thank you for visiting and leaving your nice comment. Hugs and blessings.

What a touching and beautiful story, Dear Mags. 🕊️ It truly touched my heart.

Even through the fog of dementia, your husband’s love for the Word and his daily rhythm remained. A quiet testimony of God’s Grace and Faithfulness. 📖✨

And Patches by his side, absolutely precious … what a sweet glimpse of comfort, companionship, and peace.

Thank you for sharing this precious moment. It speaks louder than words ever could. 🙏
