Have you had the pleasure of watching these little cuties scurry down tree trunks head first. They are one of my favorite birds to watch. The little white breasted nuthatches.
I certainly do not have the abilities that they do. I have fallen out of a tree and fallen head first in a few places in the past. But I have never seen a nuthatch fall.
Thinking of the little nut hatches today brought memories back to me of times I have fallen.
One fall I have never forgotten and still have the scar from the fall. Around five or six years old I was playing in a tree with a little neighbor boy. We were a ways up in the tree.
I stepped on a limb and the limb broke. I fell and landed on my back. My head rested on a large tree root and was split all the way down the back.
I don’t remember any pain, but I do remember the doctor giving me a half dollar coin because I did not cry while getting the stiches put in.
That scar has been a lifetime reminder for me to stay out of trees. I don’t have the ability of a nuthatch so I need to keep my feet on the ground.
Other than scars there are other reminders that help me to stay on the right path in life. I thank God for all the things that remind me of the right thing to do in all situations and that is…trust Him.

Yes! I can’t remember everything I did yesterday, but once I see somewhere I’ve been before and recall how that went, I don’t try it again. Scars are excellent reminders.

I keep my feet on the ground too, Mags. My feet off the ground is a disaster waiting to happen. Love the little nuthatch. Mostly past experience keeps me away from situations and people not in my best interests.

We do learn from those experiences and it is a good thing. I am glad you love the little nuthatch, they are so cute and fun to watch.

I love the little nuthatch, Mags. Birds are so amazing! I used to love to watch the Kingfishers by the creek. They would sit in the treetops and watch the water and then dive for fish, though it always looked as though they were falling straight out of the trees! I like the way you see a life lesson in these little birds. As for me, yes, many reminders but I always seem to have to learn things the hard way :)

I am so glad that you get to enjoy the birds, Jean. I have never seen a kingfisher other than in photos. Birds are amazing. You are not alone in learning some things the hard way. We get it eventually though, don’t we? :)

Yes, eventually, lol. I used to live on five wooded acres with a creek running through the back yard and I saw so many amazing birds I had to buy a bird book to see what they all were! Now I have a little rented house in town and I mostly just get the common backyard birds but they are blessings too :)

Mine also, Ian. Especially during my childhood and teen years. My mother had her hands full and she prayed those angels would help her with me. :)

Adorable birds and a scary yet neat story. Sometimes I just shake my head and wonder how any of us survived childhood. My cousins and I would climb to the tippy top of the tallest sycamore tree as long as the branch would hold our weight. Then we would see how far we could make the tree sway back and forth. Gives me the shivers to think about it now.

Looking back I am in awe of how we survived some of the things we did back then. I can see in my mind you and your cousins high up in that tree shaking it. No fear then but it sure sounds scary now. Glad you survived Vero.

I don’t think I have ever seen a nuthatch. Yes, life has so many lessons and I try to learn the first time.

I used to see acrobatic nuthatches in NY constantly. They are here in the NC mountains, but I don’t see them very often.
Judging by your delightful posts, landing on your head did not do damage to your brain. I’m thankful for that.
When I get the feeling that I am about to do something dangerous, I feel it is God nudging me. Most of the time I pay attention.

Wow Maggie, I’m glad you are okay! God is always good. As a child I looooved climbing trees, so fun! I would climb them at night too to see the lights flashing atop radio towers in the area. Maybe that’s why I have a ham radio license…
