Wrestling with a water hose

For forty-seven years I had no problem hooking the water hose to the spigot on the outside of my home. The last three years it has been a difficult task. This year it seemed impossible for me to do.

For some reason whomever installed the spigot put it very near to the ground. To connect the hose I have to bend over way low.

At my age being in that position is not a good idea. After a while I get dizzy and feel as if I am falling forward. That is something I for sure do not want to do.

My lawn was needing water badly so I prayed and asked the Lord to somehow help me to connect the hose.

The first try it seemed to have connected. I turned on the water…the end of the hose fell to the ground and water was flowing out of the spigot on to the ground.

“Well that didn’t work.” I said out loud. “Okay, Lord I am going to try this again, so here we go.” After several more tries it still did not connect so I said “Okay I just give up.” My hips and knees were hurting and I was dizzy.

I pitched the end of the hose upon the step. I stood still until the dizziness went away. Then I said “No, Lord I asked you to help me and we are going to get that hose connected and the lawn watered.”

After trying a couple more times to connect the hose it connected.

“Okay, Lord thank you so much.” I proceeded to water the lawn.

I talk to the Lord as if he was sitting or standing next to me. We do everything together. He has never let me down from helping with the simplest things to the most difficult that I do.

Prayers are not always answered when and how we would like them to be, but they are answered. The Lord knows what is best for us.

So don’t give up the answers will come.

I LOVE this Mags and thank you for sharing. Your conversation with God resembles a lot of mine with Him. I’m glad you didn’t give up because He never does as long as we’re willing to continually ask for help. My prayer every time I step into the yard is, “Don’t let me do something stupid to hurt myself.” 😂

Thank you so much, Barb for your kind comment. He has answered many prayers for me like the one you pray before going outside. I need his Help inside too so that I don’t do something stupid. Sometimes I have to tell Him I am sorry and that I knew I should have been more careful. We will keep on talking to Him and he will keep on watching over us. Hugs and have a wonderful day, Barb.

It’s my pleasure, Mags. I enjoy reading what you write and yes ma’am…my body is 60, but my mind tells me I can move the heavy planter, but feeling that pinch in the lower back releases apologies here too. Amen, lovely and hugs to you! 💞

Your determination is inspiring, Mags! Wrestling with that low spigot sounds like a real test of patience and grit, especially with the dizziness and discomfort. I love how you kept the faith, talking to the Lord like a friend by your side, and didn’t give up. That moment when the hose finally connected must’ve felt like a small victory, a reminder that persistence and prayer can move mountains, or at least get a lawn watered. Keep that connection tight, and thanks for sharing such a heartfelt story 🧡

Maybe a little step stool to sit on would help.

To sit that low I would not be able to get up without help. One of my nice blog followers who has a spigot placed much like mine told me what she did. I think it will solve my problem. She hooked a short hose to the spigot and leaves it then hooks the longer hose on to it when needed. Thank you for your suggestion, much appreciated. With my age, knees and hips I can’t use your suggestion. You are so kind to try to help. Hugs

I know what you mean. I hurt my knees last year when Emma yanked me off my feet and I landed on both knees one after the other. Really wrecked me for a while. I can’t do the very low step stools either, but I have a two-stepper that works better. But your follower’s suggestion about the hose sounds very smart, so I hope that works for you.

I am so sorry about you falling on your knees. I know how painful that is. I need a two step stool to help reach things on the top shelves in my kitchen cupboards. I think Vero’s suggestion is going to work well. Our spigots sound almost identical. Hugs

I have an outdoor spigot that sounds exactly like yours. .very low and close to the wall so that you scrape your knuckles on the blocks when trying to hook up a hose. After several frustrating summers, I thought to attach a short hose and just leave it in place. Then when I am ready to water, I hook my long watering hose to the end of the short one and turn the water on. I will unhook it when the freezing temperatures come this winter.

Also I kinda buried the short hose so that it doesn’t look so ugly laying there all the time.

What a wonderful idea from Vero! Another of the benefits of our blogging friends. I keep thinking I need to get a short stool so I can sit instead of bending over…but I might need one with arms tall enough to pull myself up!

Yes it is and I am going to purchase a short hose and do just that. A short stool would come in handy for other things if like you say it had arms. I really appreciate the benefits of blogging friends. Maybe we can find us a stool with arms. Thank you for sharing that idea.
