One morning in February of 1991 the telephone rang. When I answered the call a lady on the other end of the line identified herself as a nurse from one of the local hospitals.
She told me that she had been given my number in hopes that I might be able to help with a situation at the hospital.
A baby girl had been born there five days earlier. She only weighed 1pound and 13 ounces. Her brain was very small and she had other issues.

They were not expecting her to live more than one or two weeks longer. The nurse asked if I would come get her and take care of her until she passed.
Without hesitation I told her that I would and asked when could I pick her up. I drove to the hospital the next morning and brought her home.
She could do nothing for herself. She was totally physically and mentally disabled and she had very little eyesight. But one thing she could do was smile and that she did. Everywhere we went people were in awe of her beautiful smile.

We adopted her and she was one of those little blessings that turned into a big blessing. We learned so much as we cared for her. One thing that we learned was…we never know where love and blessings might come from.

She lived for eight years and one month. She brought us joy every day of those eight years.

I was a foster parent also. I adopted three girls. The youngest lives with me now along with her husband and two children. She teaches in the local school.

Wonderful! We adopted five. Teachers are special people and I don’t think they get near enough credit for what they do.

Thank you again, Frances for visiting my blog and leaving a nice comment. I was just being the hands and feet of Jesus doing what God had called me to do. I did the walking and using the hands and the Lord and people meant to help did all the rest. Hugs and blessings sweet Frances.

My wife’s parents used to foster babies until a perminant home could be found for them. They loved pouring love into those children and were always sad when it was time for them to go to their permanant home. You have to be a special person to do that kind of work and I think it would be one of the most satisfying things to look back on a life poured out like this for the betterment of humankind.

Thank you, Ian for this nice comment. I never felt special I just did what I knew the Lord had called me to do. You are right about the sadness. It has been a blessing for us that we have been able to stay in contact with some of the ones we cared for. It is bittersweet looking back.

What an angel YOU are for taking this sweet baby in. I hate that she lived so short a life, but I know she was with you for a reason. God plans EVERYTHING.

She was the angel. You are right Kim that God plans everything. Her not being able to do anything for herself but smile sure taught me a lot. It is all so much easier when we leave it all in the Lord’s hands. Thank you for your kind comment. Hugs

That is so incredibly beautiful, Mags. How brave of you to take in a child, knowing you would have to soon say goodbye. And God blessed you with eight years with your smiling little angel. This warms my heart :)

Thank you, Jean for your kind comment. One of the hardest things I learned was to love and let go, but God helped me to do that. She was a shining light on this earth for sure.
