Two Dresses

As a child I had two dresses that I loved. They are the only dresses I remember.

One dress was a green and white checked dress my mother made from flour sacks. I was very young when she made the dress. She was surprised when I mentioned the dress after I became an adult and told her how much I loved the dress. She said I was only 4 years old.

The other dress was the first and only Easter dress I remember ever having. It was the prettiest dress I had ever had. Not long before Easter we moved to a state where the weather was colder than where we had been living.

All I remember about that dress is how pretty it was and how cold my sister and I were in our short sleeve pretty dresses when we went to church on Easter Sunday.

I think about those two dresses often and how happy they made me. I am so thankful for a loving, praying mother that worked hard to see her girls never went without basic needs.

I’m glad you have such sweet memories of your childhood, Mags. Mine was a little red dress with a pink and white gingham apron. One of Mother’s finest efforts! ๐Ÿ’ž

I too had a mother who put all her own interests aside to care for her family, and she was and is deeply loved because of that. It was a good example for how we should carry on that same spirit.

Beautiful memory Sweet Sis. My Mom sewed many a sack for play, school, and church clothes. The sacks were colorful prints and were passed down to my cousins. The good old days for sure :) Hugs Sweet Sis!

yes, the little things are what we remember aren’t they? I had a special Easter dress when I was younger too, I think I have a picture somewhere that shows me wearing it.

I knew if my mom wore a dress it was a special occasion! She rarely did.
